Overview
In the ComXchange extensions are separated into staff and guest extensions. Staff extensions will be used for management, employee, and and house phones as well as any other SIP devices that are connected to the ComXchange such as door phones, etc. The Staff extensions can be set up as PJSIP or Chan_SIP extensions. PJSIP is the newer SIP driver that can allow you to have an extension associated with more than one device. This will be helpful for any users that would like to use the clearly anywhere app and have deskphone. The guest extensions are extensions that can be checked in and out. While they are typically associated with guest rooms you can also set up meeting rooms as guest extensions so they can be checked in and out to restrict calls from those extensions as well. Guest extensions are only created as Chan_SIP extensions in the ComXchange. Below will go over some of the common configurable options that are used when setting up extensions
Staff Extensions
- Navigate to Core Configuration > Extension
- Click on + Add Extension. Staff can use either Chansip or Pjsip
- Add the User Extension
- Add a Display name
- Optional add an Outbound CID - The Outbound Caller ID can be used if the Extension will have an inbound DID (Direct Inward Dial) that others can call back to. This CID will take priority over Outbound Route and Trunk CID's
- Optional Emergency CID - The Emergency caller ID will be used on outbound calls from this extension if the caller places a call that uses an Emergency Outbound Route
Voicemail tab
- Under the voicemail tab is where you can enable voicemail for an extension, set the voicemail password, as well as other voicemail related options.
- To force the user to setup their mailbox on first access, set the voicemail password to be the same as the extension number. You may need to remind the user to change the password as they complete the setup or they will be asked to repeat the setup each time they login to voicemail until the password is changed!

- Optional Destinations. It is possible to direct a call to an extension to go to a different destination if the call is not answered or the extension is busy.
