Outbound CallerID

There are a few things to consider about outbound Caller ID's in the ComXchange.  Outbound Caller ID's (CID's) can be set at the Extension, Outbound Routes, and Trunking level.  By default CID's set at the extension level will override the a CID set in the Outbound Route or Trunking Level unless an override in either of those modules is set to override the Caller ID

Extension Level Caller ID

In the Extension Module you can set an outbound CallerID for a specific staff Extension.  There is an option for   There is an option for an outbound CID or an Emergency CID.  If the Outbound CID is filled in any call going out a route not designated as an Emergency Route will be sent to the Carrier with the defined CID.  If the Emergency Route CID field is filled in with a number it will be sent out an Outbound Route designated as an emergency route to the carrier.  Unless there is an override at the Outbound Route or Trunk level.

Outbound Route Caller ID

In the Outbound routes the CID can be set to change any CID that uses the route to be sent through a trunk to the carrier.  This CID will be used when the extension placing the call has no CID in its outbound CID field.  However, the Route CID could be configured to override the extension CID if the Override Extension parameter is set to Yes.  This would then force any call using this Outbound Route to use the Route CID when sending the call to the Trunk and then on to the carrier, unless it is overwritten at the Trunk level.

Route Type Considerations

The Outbound Route type will also have an impact on the Caller ID of the call going out.  If the route type is set to emergency type the Emergency CID of an extension should be preserved and sent out the Trunk to the carrier even if the extension override is set in the outbound route.  If the Route Type is set to Intra-Company the Internal Caller ID will be preserved regardless for the Outbound Caller ID at the Extension or Trunk level

Trunk Level Outbound Caller ID

The Caller ID can be set at the trunking level so that any call using the trunk will send out with the Caller ID of the hotel unless there are Caller ID's set up in the Extension or the Outbound Route.  The Trunk itself however may override either the Extension or Outbound Route depending on the Trunk CID Options settings.  If there is only one number for the Hotel you can typically set the the CID at the trunk Level.
  • Allow any CID - this is the default setting and will allow any CID set at the extension or route level to be sent to the carrier and not use the Trunk Outbound Caller ID
  • Block Foreign CIDs - Sets any CID from a forwarded call from off the system to the Outbound CallerID defined for the trunk. If no Outbound CallerID is defined for the trunk, the Foreign CID will be sent unchanged. CIDs defined for extensions/users are transmitted.
  • Remove CNAM -  Will remove any CNAM that will be sent out the trunk
  • Force Trunk CID - Always use the CID for this trunk except if part of any EMERGENCY Route with an EMERGENCY CID defined for the extension/device.  Intra-Company Routes will always transmit an extension's internal number and name.
Note: If you are sending calls over a PRI or T1 CAS gateway you may need to force the Trunk CID to a specific number for the carrier to accept the calls.
